LAYER 2 cryptocurrencies are making a comeback.
It could be said that the $ETH wave pumped for a short period, allowing the ETH system to pump due to FOMO.
In the long term, L2 remains a tough nut to crack.

During a round of $BTC and $ETH pullbacks, there was a rather unusual phenomenon:
BTC.D actually dropped noticeably.
In the past, when the market fell, funds usually concentrated into Bitcoin, altcoins would crash first, and BTC.D would rise accordingly. But this time it was different—ETH didn’t hold up and even fell harder than BTC, yet BTC.D still went down.
In other words, the main force dragging down BTC.D this time wasn’t ETH, but the relative strength of many altcoins.
Although many altcoins also pulled back, their overall resilience was clearly stronger than before, with some coins even holding steady, without the previous pattern of “BTC drops 5%, altcoins evaporate 20%.”
This phenomenon is actually quite rare, at least it hasn’t been seen much in the past two years.
To some extent, it indicates that risk appetite in the market hasn’t completely receded, and funds haven’t fully retreated to BTC at the first sign of trouble, but are still willing to stay in some altcoins to speculate.
This doesn’t necessarily mean an altcoin bull market is coming immediately, but at least it shows one thing:
The market structure has started to differ from the past environment where a BTC drop meant all altcoins would go to zero.

🔷 Tom Lee: #Ethereum is the best-performing asset since the outbreak of hostilities
🟢 BitMine Chairman Tom Lee stated at Paris Blockchain Week 2026 on May 5th that #Ethereum is currently the world's best-performing asset since the Middle East crisis began.
🟢 According to Tom Lee, $ETH even outperformed energy stocks and the S&P 500 index by nearly 20 percentage points.
🟢 He believes that if the market continues to withstand Middle East tensions and the US economy remains stable despite high oil prices, the crypto bull run could last until 2028.
🟢 Tom Lee also noted that Ethereum is undergoing a deep accumulation phase, laying the groundwork for the next growth cycle.
🟢 Trends such as tokenization and agentic AI are expected to be the main drivers of the new #Ethereum surge, including... stablecoins, tokenized stocks, on-chain reputation systems, and the need for AI-powered payments.
